Review: 2024 Hyundai Sonata Limited Hybrid
Updated for 2024, the Hyundai Sonata continues to give you all the good things you expect in a mid-size sedan. To experience everything new about the 2024 Sonata, all you have to do is drive the Limited Hybrid model. Because it simply gives you everything.
The first thing you notice is its sleek and sharp design, which is complimented by new front and rear elements. This is emphasized by an LED light strip across the front end. The headlamp units are lower on the front fascia, emitting a strong light at night. LED taillight units and a black center panel between them were also changed for a cleaner look.
The roofline has not changed. It welcomes the new front and rear fascia, giving it a sleek, cohesive profile. The Hybrid Limited wears a set of 17-inch alloy wheels to finish up the exterior of our silver sampler.
Also, for 2024, a new instrument panel features a flat panel with two 12.3-inch screens. The digital instrument cluster on the left is clean in design and customizable with the information you need. The dials double as individual Blind-Spot View Monitors. A wide head-up display also complements this to keep your eyes on the road. The other screen is for the infotainment system and includes the Surround View Monitor, giving you a 360-degree look around the Sonata.
You will find the transmission control as a knob at the end of a stalk, off of the steering column. Placing it on the column frees up space for more storage in the center console. A wireless device charging pad is found in the cubby underneath the climate control. A new three-spoke steering wheel finishes up the updated and enhanced look of the Sonata’s cockpit.
The leather-appointed front seats are soft, comfortable, and supportive. There are power adjustments for rake, recline, height, and lumbar support. The rear seat offers great leg and headroom for six-footers. A wide-opening trunk offers 15.6 cubic feet of space.
Powering the Limited Hybrid is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine attached to a 39-kilowatt electric motor, gaining energy from a 270-volt lithium-ion battery pack. Combined, this driveline puts out 192 horsepower. A six-speed torque converter automatic transmission connects the Hybrid system to the Sonata Limited’s front wheels.
You will love how smooth the Sonata Limited Hybrid drives. It starts from the electric motor’s instant torque that propels the Sonata Hybrid onto the highway with absolute ease. Once you get up to cruising speed, it’s just easy to let it glide. The shifts were very smooth, as well. As for fuel economy, you can get up to 51 MPG on the highway. In a mix of in-town and highway driving, we averaged 47.1 MPG – which matches the EPA’s combined fuel economy rating.
Smooth is the operating word for the 2024 Sonata Limited Hybrid. This is evident in the ride quality and handling. The steering is also solid, with a tight turning radius for its size and a solid on-center feeling when you’re in between the lanes. Hyundai’s SmartSense suite of driver assistance features works exceptionally well in every situation. For example, Lane Keeping Assist absolutely keeps you within the lane, increasing peace of mind while driving the Sonata.
The brakes return great stops in everyday and panic situations. The pedal feel is powerful and communicates well back to the wheels.
The best part about the 2024 Hyundai Sonata Limited Hybrid is its value. You can still get a luxurious, fully equipped, and efficient mid-size sedan for less than you think!
