The 2024 Hyundai Kona is all-new and has more interior space than before. The new design gives the compact Hyundai a grownup and futuristic look.
Thanks to a longer wheelbase and thinner front seats, the 2024 Kona has more rear legroom and cargo space. The standard engine is a 2.0-liter inline-4 with a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-4 available.
While the Hyundai Kona is a small crossover SUV, it does big things for its owners. Get great fuel economy and value with its fantastic looks, attractive and well-appointed interior, safety features, and technology, plus its overall driving dynamics.
Performance
The Hyundai Kona is powered by two different engines. The standard engine for the SE and SEL trim levels is a 2.0-liter Atkinson 4-cylinder that produces 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque mated to a Smartstream Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). The N Line and Limited models get a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-4 that makes 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The front-wheel drive Kona SE and SEL models get an EPA estimated fuel economy of 29 city and 34 highway, with the SEL Convenience Package getting 1 less mpg in the city but 1 more mpg on the highway run. All-wheel drive SE and SEL models get 27 city and 29 highway, with the SEL Convenience Package getting 1 less mpg in the city cycle.
Buyers who choose the N Line or Limited models will be able to get 26 mpg city and 32 mpg highway with FWD. AWD cars will achieve 24 city and 29 highway.
Exterior
With a drag coefficient of just 0.27, the new Hyundai Kona has been engineered to be more aerodynamic while still maintaining a classy and futuristic, EV-like appearance.
When Hyundai designers worked on this new style, they wanted to start off with an EV-to-I.C.E. design process. Instead of adding aerodynamics after the fact for the electric Kona, they instead sculpted it to be as smooth and modernized as an electric vehicle to better cut through the air and optimize fuel efficiency.
The dimensions of the 2024 Kona are listed below:
- Wheelbase – 104.7”
- Length – 171.3” (N Line – 172.6”)
- Width – 71.9”
- Height with roof rails – FWD – 62.4” when equipped with 17”/18” wheels, 62.6” with 19” wheels / AWD – 63.4” with 17”/18” wheels, 63.6” with 19” wheels
The wheelbase is an increase of 2.3 inches compared to the 2023 model and the Kona is now 5.7-inches longer than the previous generation.
There are six specific colors for the Hyundai Kona: Mirage Green, Cyber Gray, Abyss Black, Neoteric Yellow, Ecotronic Gray, and Atlas White.
The Kona N Line features body color cladding, 19” N Line specific wheels, N Line rear spoiler, dual-exhaust tips, Bose premium sound, sport seats with red accents, aluminum pedals, N Line scuff plates, more aggressively shaped black mirrors, plus sportier front and rear fascia.
Interior
As mentioned before, the 2024 Kona is 5.7 inches longer overall with an increase in wheelbase by 2.3 inches. This allows the interior volume and space to grow by quite a bit for passengers and cargo alike.
With the rear seats up, the Kona has 25.5 cu.ft. of trunk space, and 63.7 cu.ft. when they are folded. When equipped with a sunroof, the total interior volume is 124.5 cu.ft. That is an increase of 6.3 cu.ft. with the seats up, 17.9 with the seats folded, and 11.2 cu.ft. of interior volume.
The front seats have been made 30% slimmer to increase rear legroom, and Hyundai has added a curveless bench seat to aid in total available space.
Technology
Standard dual 12.3-inch displays are the hallmark of the interior technology. The digital instrument cluster is configurable for owners and is connected to the multimedia touchscreen display. Wireless Apple CarPlay is also standard across the range, as is a proximity key with push button start.
Safety
The 2024 Hyundai Kona aims to be one of the safest and most technologically advanced small crossovers on the market. Hyundai SmartSense Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) is standard and features Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), High Beam Assist (HBA), Surround View Monitor (SVM), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Rear Occupant Alert/Safe Exit Warning, and Parking Collision Avoidance Assist-Reverse.
